Who Can Get Eyelid Surgery?
As we age, our eyelids lose elasticity, and the muscles underlying the skin weaken. Fat deposits can also appear. Together, these aging processes can lead to loose, crepe-paper-like skin on the eyelids, puffy bags under the eyes, and a lack of confidence in one of the most important facial features. Men and women who would like to regain a more youthful look in the eye area, or who are experiencing impaired vision from skin drooping into their eyes, may choose eyelid surgery.
The Eyelid Surgery Procedure
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, removes excess fat and skin from eyelids. Dr. Sadeghi can perform this procedure on both upper and lower lids. Patients with severe under-eye bags, puffiness, or dark circles will benefit from a lower blepharoplasty, while patients whose eyelids droop into their eyes or who are having trouble applying makeup will benefit from an upper blepharoplasty. Lower blepharoplasty includes incisions in the creases below the eyelashes to remove extra skin and fat, and may also include small incisions in the lower lids to alleviate discoloration or puffiness. Eyelid muscles are then carefully repositioned to create a more youthful look. Upper blepharoplasty includes small incisions in the folds of the eyelids, from which excess fat or tissue is extracted. The underlying muscles are adjusted to a higher position to help create a more rested appearance. Dr. Sadeghi performs both blepharoplasty procedures on an outpatient basis, as you rest comfortably under general anesthesia.
Risks of Eyelid Surgery
Some patients may find that they are more sensitive to light following the procedure. Rarely, some patients experience a change in vision, or lid lag, a condition in which the lower lid droops temporarily following the procedure. You’ll always be able to discuss your concerns with Dr. Sadeghi before your procedure. Feel free to browse our patient gallery or testimonials to get a better idea of how blepharoplasty can change your appearance.

Recovering From Your Eyelid Surgery
Following your procedure, Dr. Sadeghi’s staff will apply bandages and ointment to your surgical site. You’ll have some discomfort over the following few days, which can be alleviated with cold compresses and prescribed painkillers. Most patients find that they can return to work after a week or so; however, results will continue to take shape for up to a few months. Protecting your surgical results with sunscreen will help lengthen their longevity!
